Space shuttle launch

I guess I need to pay attention to the news more often.  Then again, considering the usual crap they pass off as news these days, mever mind.

Anywho, Space Shuttle Endeavour launched this evening.  I wasn’t aware of it until I was pulling into my neighborhood this evening and saw a huge bright orange flash light up the southeastern night sky.  Even living about three hours from Cape Canaveral, I was able to see the shuttle clearly.  That…was…cool!

  1. You LuckyDuck! I better go to Florida next year and plan my trip around a launch cuz the shuttle is going to be retired early in 2010.
It was incredibly STUPID of Bush to order their retirement and have money dumped into the Ares/Orion program which in fact has NO practical value.

  2. I’ve been watching them from my yard since I moved to FL in ’85, and I’m 3 hrs in the other direction. Every time I see one it’s Awesome!

  3. We get the occasional landing out here at Edwards AFB. When it’s clear, you can see the shuttle coming in, complete with sonic boom. Very cool!

  4. Friday night was one of the most perfectly clear nights to see the shuttle go up. Even down our way, that sucker is BRIGHT! It always gives me chills.

I still miss living in the landing path and catching the sonic boom. I’ve only been to one actual launch. We actually ended up getting a base pass for the 1st launch after the Challenger disaster. After stepping outside back home and seeing the Challenger explode, it was even more awesome to be on the NASA property for the return to space.
