Canadian province’s premier: Socialized medicine is so wicked awesome here in Canuckistan that I’m flying to the U.S. for my heart surgery

Dude’s been a huge proponent and defender of socialized medicine, but when it comes to his own health, it’s a totally different tune he’s singing.  Beauty, eh?  Details:

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams is set to undergo heart surgery this week in the United States.

CBC News confirmed Monday that Williams, 60, left the province earlier in the day and will have surgery later in the week.

The premier’s office provided few details, beyond confirming that he would have heart surgery and saying that it was not necessarily a routine procedure.

Single-payer for thee, but not for me…eh, Canuckistan?

Here’s guessing that this won’t be in Mikie Moore’s next mockumentary.

  1. Maybe Danny Boy is planning on moving south and is going to get into U.S. politics? I’ll bet there’s a D beside his name when he runs in New York.

  2. Newfoundland, the province that Mr Williams is premier of, is also the poorest in the country and has a small population (although this may soon change). Right now, however, Newfoundland is a basket case and the health care system therefore cannot function.

Like I said before, our system is far from perfect. But so is the American one, so why all of this silly arguement over something foreign to American experience and culture?
