Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

My “Gainesville Koran burning” take

My apologies for making you fine folks wait this long for my coveted opinion on the Gainesville Koran burning thing.  I know you have been waiting with bated breath.  😆

First of all, anything that originates in Gainesville is stupid.  That goes without saying.  😀

Secondly, the pastor who is doing this cannot be doing this with Christian intentions.  While our Bible teaches us that there is only one way to Heaven (and that’s through faith in Jesus) and that we are to be unapologetic and unashamed of Him in every way, it teaches us a lot of other things, too.  Intentionally enflaming a lot of people, without regard for anyone who may be adversely affected, is not a Christian trait.  This is not being done with love in his heart, at least not in any way that I can see.

Finally, General Petraeus says it’s a horrible idea in terms of the dangers that the burning could bring to our troops.  I’ll defer to his superior judgment on that matter, so if he says it endangers the troops, that’s good enough for me to oppose it.

All that said, I find the reaction of the left to be infuriating and hypocritical.

For one, President Training Wheels has opined that the Koran burning is a horrible thing to do.  Shouldn’t he be saying something like “I support their First Amendment right to do this.  I’m not going to comment on the wisdom of doing it, though.”?  I mean, he had no qualms about Muslims building a mosque on Ground Zero, saying that the First Amendment was sacred.  Now that a group of maybe 50 people want to exercise their First Amendment rights, suddenly it’s not a good idea?  President Kick#ss is voting “Present” on the wisdom of building a Ground Zero mosque but voting “No!” on the wisdom of Koran burning.

Also, part of what this pastor is doing is (he claims) based on his observation that Islam is a violent religion.  So how does the Muslim world react to this pastor’s claims of violence in their religion?  Why, they react with threats of violence, that’s how!  Way to prove your opposition right, Ahmed.

Finally, isn’t it refreshing (or sad, take your pick) to finally find a religion around which the left can rally?  After crapping on Christianity since time immemorial, the left finally gets around to fighting for a religion…and it’s a religion that wants them dead.  Friggin’ brilliant, leftards.  Ace sums it up beautifully (profanity redacted):

Furthermore, we continue to encourage Islamist killers. Every time they kill, what message does the nation and its communicative institutions parrot over and over?

1) Islam is a religion of peace.

2) Islam is one of the world’s “great religions.”

3) The overwhelming majority of Islam’s faithful are good, pious people.

Every time they murder in the name of Allah, then, we all collectively begin shouting how f##king wonderful Allah is.

Is it any surprise they continue to murder us then? They kill us, and we then proselytize on their behalf.

I’m not pulling a Charlie Crist here and waffling on the matter.  I think the Gainesville church should drop the idea of burning Korans, for reasons both Christian and strategic in nature.  But I don’t need the hypocritical,  politically correct left telling us about how bad it is, as their views ring quite hollow.

  1. as one who is currently living over here I an very vary of what will happen should these idiots go thru with their burning. Do they have a right to do it? Absolutely…should they? Absolutely NOT!!! With rights come responsibility to exercise those rights responsibly. (BTW, I feel the same way about the cordoba mosque)

  2. Their hate fill “DEATH TO CHRISTIANS” rants this week makes me want to buy a Koran and burn it myself. And here I was saying how stupid the Gainesville losers were. Islamic nutters the world over do absolutely NOTHING to make me feel for them.

  3. I am burning my Koran tomorrow on my front lawn anyway! It is only a book and one full of horrific commands to hate, torture and murder innocent people! I know, I have read them. Tt is my right to do whatever I wish with my property. I was given this book long ago by someone trying to convert me to Islam with all kinds of lies and eventually threats. If Muslims riot, let the national guard go out and handle it.

  4. The radical islamists want us dead because we’re not radical islamists, and acting like them, by burning Korans, is just childish. We win the respect of the World by being strong in our defence of ourselves and the helpless, honnoring our traditions and those of the other cultures who stand by us, and lastly acting like adults.

A pastor is a leader who guides the flock through wisdom and living, by example, a Jesus would want us to. The Gospals are full of Jesus chastizing his closest decipals for acting like children.

This poor example of a pastor needs to read his own holy text before getting in the mud and burning other faiths holy texts.

  6. Going to have to disagree here. When I first heard about it, I thought it was a stupid idea (as I think all ideas which contain burning anything for reasons other than heat). Then, I saw the tolerant muslim reaction to the suggestion of burning the koran: actual burning of stuff and real threat of violence.

It is within this reaction that we must – I repeat MUST – answer the threat. An American suggests an action with which he is entitled under our First Amendment and foreign enemies threaten violence. Since that threat, I say we stack those vile books a mile high, soak liberally with gasoline, and light the candle of freedom.

  8. I always find the Left’s appeal to morality to be a farce. I however am disgusted with how the Left acts apologetic to Muslims when they threaten violence against others who disagree with them.
