Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Reid: I’m dead serious about deficit reduction, except the federal funding of the “cowboy poetry festival” in NV

Now if this isn’t what the Founding Fathers had in mind for an appropriate federal role, I don’t know what is!

Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.) slammed the Republicans’ budget proposal on Tuesday as ‘mean-spirited’ and complained it would eliminate money for a cowboy poetry festival that brings tens of thousands of tourists to Nevada.

“The mean-spirited bill, H.R. 1, eliminates National Public Broadcasting,” said Reid in a floor speech. “It eliminates the National Endowment of the Humanities, National Endowment of the Arts. These programs create jobs. The National Endowment of the Humanities is the reason we have in northern Nevada every January a cowboy poetry festival. Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist.”  (People wouldn’t exist if there were no cowboy poetry festival?  So the subsidies keep people alive? – CL)

The Republican plan would slash $57 billion from the budget for the remainder of fiscal year 2011. That budget is likely to face a vote in the Senate on Tuesday evening.

I’m guessing Babs Boxer is going to decry the GOP “vendetta” against cowboys.

Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal just called to say how gay a “cowboy poetry” shindig sounds.  How does a “cowboy poem” sound?  “There once was a cowpoke from Nantucket…”

Nice job, NV, for sending this #sshat back to DC to represent you.

  1. So once again, we have liberals pointing to benefits of the gov’t doing something that is TOTALLY NOT in it’s constitutional responsibilities and using that benefit as the justification for the gov’t to continue to do that which is NOT it’s function.
As long as there is a benefit, who gives a CRAP if it’s actually the government’s responsibility…let’s just go BELLY UP financially as long as it is in the name of unauthorized benevolence, right?
I have a good idea…how about NEVADA pay for things that are beneficial for Nevada?
    Wow, I know..I know…that’s just crazy talk!

  2. Reid is saying that discussions of the budget…um…shouldn’t be about numbers? Tell me again, WHAT is a budget if not numbers?

  3. Obviously, for the Democrats, it is something else, because the NUMBERS keep piling UP and UP and UP

    Google “Baxter Black”.

Most cowboys I know wouldn’t want the guv’mint subsidizing anything. This is just Dingy Harry sucking the till dry.

  5. Talking about numbers, if “tens of thousands” of people flock to Northern Nevada for Cowboy Poetry, then there is a market for it and no need for federal funding to support this art form.

  6. I watched Dingy Harry make this statement re:cowboy poetry on Fox news and found myself, once again, amazed at how brazen the demonrats are. This guy blathering on about cowboy poetry and the other nice things to have with the taxpayer’s money in this time of budgetary crisis reminds me that they are totally out of touch with reality. And, the limitations placed upon the feds by the Constitution. Having been in the power seat for the last six years has warped his mind, not that he didn’t have the “crown prince” psychosis prior to that, just he was a little more restrained in letting it show.
Thanks NV unions and casino owners for sending this idiot back to D.C.

Absolutely right! Sort of like Jesse Jackson, Jr. saying we should amend the Constitution to provide taxpayer funded IPods and laptops for everyone. Bunch of IDIOTS!

You nailed it, dude! And if there isn’t a market, should the gov’t create one? Every business venture in America should claim that if they start to go under…HEY, I know…the Gov’t should fun the 8-track tape industry because without their help, there would be no market!

Don’t forget to thank the Tea Party for endorsing the only republican candidate that Reid COULD beat. I love the Tea Party’s principles, but look what happened on THAT alter in NV and up in DE.
To remind us all about that one, I quote Crush’s own words on an earlier post:
“Every poll in the world showed the two other Republicans in that primary (Sue Lowden and Danny Tarkanian) as beating the snot out of Harry Reid. But since Lowden was an “establishment” candidate (but there was no reason to smack Tark, as he was not such a candidate), she had to be “purged” for Angle.”
So thanks Unions, Casino owners, and the Tea Party, who basically closed the door in the faces of two candidates that would very likely have defeated this sap-sucker…
I believe in everyone with responsibility taking a fair bite of the poop-sandwich they helped make!
