Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

UK raises taxes on rich, revenue drops half a billion

When the left gets these fool-brained ideas, the results are always predictable.  From Eurotrashland:

The Treasury received £10.35 billion in income tax payments from those paying by self-assessment last month, a drop of £509 million compared with January 2011. Most other taxes produced higher revenues over the same period.

Senior sources said that the first official figures indicated that there had been “manoeuvring” by well-off Britons to avoid the new higher rate. The figures will add to pressure on the Coalition to drop the levy amid fears it is forcing entrepreneurs to relocate abroad.

The self-assessment returns from January, when most income tax is paid by the better-off, have been eagerly awaited by the Treasury and government ministers as they provide the first evidence of the success, or failure, of the 50p rate. It is the first year following the introduction of the 50p rate which had been expected to boost tax revenues from self-assessment by more than £1billion.

And naturally, since B.O. likes to emulate the Euros, he wants to copy their model of economic ignorance and implement it here.  Because hey, we just know it will be different here, right?

So the Brits raise the tax rate on the “better-off” to 50%, and wouldn’t you know it, they take their money to more tax-friendly climes?  Not only did the UK government NOT get the amount of extra revenue they thought they would…they got less than last year!  That’s not even mentioning the fact that the money that was “manoeuvred” is now parked or working elsewhere instead of working in the UK economy.

Atlas shrugging just a little?

  1. Well, maybe American economic brain-deads (liberals) will consider implementing a law (or executive order, or judicial mandate..what’s the diff?) that would impose fines on the wealthy for relocating their OWN property (money…sorry liberals, it is property, not a resource) to foreign locales.

  2. What idiots we have in power. If they needed an example of what not to do, this would be it. I am convinced that they see what is happening in Britain and elsewhere, and will implement it here if they can. Furthermore, I am totally convinced the current administration is working towards the demise of this nation as we have known it. Their purpose is to bring us to the level of Europe and the other socialist countries in the world. All for more power for the liberal/progressive/socialist/communist elites in the world. A conspiracy? You betcha. No other way to see it, if a person has half a brain. Conspiracy is not a dirty word, it is just not politically correct. Screw politically correctness, it’s screwing up our country and the world.
Connect the dots of all that is going on in this nation, in the world. See what ya get.
Liberalism is a serious mental disorder.

  3. J – I agree wholeheartedly. There is no way anyone can look at what our idiot prez is doing and NOT think it’s intentional.

  4. Notice that “conspiracy” has been redefined to be synonymous with “ding-bat”. The term is used in law every day, “conspiracy to commit X,Y, or Z”.
But, those who stand to benefit the most from dismantling our nation’s greatness, and who aggressively seek to tear our nation down,..THEY seem to be the ones who now wield the authority to just SAY that the word “conspiracy” equals “nut job”. Some conspiracy theories are goof-ball moronic fantasies…but now, we see how they have succeeded in lumping ALL conspiracy allegations into the same category.
    Pretty convenient, no?
Is it a nut job who would point to the aggressive tactics of the media to either bury stories that do not support liberal agendas or to marginalize them to mere mentioning rather than true coverage?
How much coverage has the death threats against Republicans in WI received? How much coverage has the mega-death tolls near the US/Mexico border received? How much coverage has the gov’t received from the media after Forrest Service officials refuse to allow border agents to pursue suspected drug smugglers onto Federal forests? No, not every “conspiracy” allegation is “nut job”…but the ones who stand to gain the most from the dismantling of our economy and defense sure have managed to manufacture an insulation barrier by stigmatizing the word. Michael Moore, nut job. “Insiders”…they sure SEEM nutty to me (what do I know?!). “Birthers”…well, they SAY hat is nutty. But aggressive economy-hurting and defense-compromise looks a LOT like a commie conspiracy to me.
But he, I’m sure I have the LEFT to insure me that I am just cooky and that “all is well…conspiracies don’t REALLY exist”…right Alaska CBS reporters? http://biggovernment.com/publius/2010/10/30/anchorage-cbs-affiliate-caught-on-voicemail-conspiring-against-alaskas-gop-senate-candidate/
