The Supreme Court won’t hear an appeal from ACORN, the activist group driven to ruin by scandal and financial woes, over being banned from getting federal funds.
The high court on Monday refused to review a federal court’s decision to uphold Congress’s ban on federal funds for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
Congress cut off ACORN’s federal funding last year in response to allegations the group engaged in voter registration fraud and embezzlement and violated the tax-exempt status of some of its affiliates by engaging in partisan political activities.
ACORN sued, but the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City upheld the action. The high court refused to hear its appeal.
The case is ACORN v. United States, 10-1068.
ACORN will have to raise their own money in order to shield pimps of underage prostitutes.
I’m shocked…shocked, I tell you! For those of you on the left, the prior sentence was sarcasm. Excerpt:
The radical activist group ACORN “works” for the Democratic Party and deliberately promotes election fraud, ACORN employees told FBI investigators, according to an FBI document dump Wednesday.
The documents obtained by Judicial Watch, a watchdog group, are FBI investigators’ reports related to the 2007 investigation and arrest of eight St. Louis, Mo., workers from ACORN’s Project Vote affiliate for violation of election laws. All eight employees involved in the scandal later pleaded guilty to voter registration fraud.
Project Vote is ACORN’s voter registration arm. Project Vote continues to operate despite the reported dissolution of the national structure of ACORN.
The handwritten reports by FBI agents show that ACORN employees reported numerous irregularities in the nonprofit group’s business practices.
One employee told the FBI that ACORN headquarters is “wkg [working] for the Democratic Party.”
According to one report, an ACORN employee said the purpose of “[f]raudulent cards” was “[t]o cause confusion on election day to keep polls open longer,” “[t]o allow people who can’t vote to vote,” and “[t]o allow to vote multiple times.”
Another report quotes an employee saying, “Project Vote will pay them whether cards fake or not – whatever they had to do to get the cards was attitude.” Project Vote pays based on the number of cards and “that’s why they were so reckless,” the report says.
A report quotes an employee saying, “I don’t like our system. I don’t think we should do voter registration.” The report also notes that employees were “[c]onstantly threatened” and that the staff were “instructed on what to say to FBI.” …
In other breaking news, water is wet.
I’m sure Holder will handle this with the professionalism and competence from whom we’ve come to expect.
Ever the optimist, ain’t I? Glass is half-full, yada yada yada.
Anywho, in light of the abdication of their constitutional and representative duties by our elected officials, consider this somewhat of a palate cleanser. From the Old Gray Hag:
The community organizing group Acorn announced Monday that it would close all its remaining state affiliates and field offices by April 1.
The organization is “developing a plan to resolve all outstanding debts, obligations and other issues,” said a statement released by the group.
Acorn has been battered by criticism from the right and has lost federal money and private donations since a video sting was publicized last fall. Acorn employees were shown in the videos advising two young conservative activists — posing as a pimp and a prostitute — how to conceal their criminal activities.
In reaction to the videos, the Census Bureau ended its partnership with the organization for this year’s census, the Internal Revenue Service dropped the group from its Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program, and Congress voted to cut off all grants to the organization.
In recent years, the group has also been dogged by mismanagement and criticism — mostly from conservatives — for its handling of voter registration drives. …
Yeah, we’re kinda funny about not wanting dead illegal aliens and their pets voting, and multiple times at that. That’s just how God wired us, I suppose.
Anywho, funny how the NYT, while writing ACORN’s obituary, seems to imply that us mean ol’ conservatives are to blame for ACORN’s demise. Good point. I mean, conservatives held a gun to their heads and made them commit vote fraud and try to conceal criminal activity, even activity as vile as child sex trafficking. Definitely our fault that ACORN did that. For those of you on the left, the prior three sentences were examples of sarcasm.
If God can dispose of a corrupt, vile organization like ACORN, there is hope that He will transfer the power structure currently polluted by the putrid cretins of the Democrat Party to the non-Marxist grown-ups.
Not content with humiliating and implicating itself by helping child sex trafficking, ACORN has been busy with other things lately. Namely (thanks to BigGovernment.com for this)…:
The “non-partisan” organization left behind a document outlining its partisan agenda in an OK office that it left hastily (in order to avoid paying the landlord back rent).
ACORN’s idea of helping the poor is…spending $9k of members’ dues at a fertility clinic? ACORN then “dumped the credit card statement detailing the charge into a public dumpster just days before the Attorney’s General office was scheduled to visit”, but I’m sure that was just a well-timed coinkidink.
ACORN dumps a document that outlines its intended political activities in Californiastan, especially to scrap Prop. 13 (which limits the state’s ability to raise certain taxes). ACORN’s not too interested what the people of CA think about running their own state.
NYT hypocrisy: We won’t report on ACORN sting video or global warming data doctoring stories because evidence was illegally obtained
Seriously? Really? The same fishwrap that had zero problems publishing national security documents that were illegally obtained now has a conscience about what they will and won’t publish? Excerpt from Ed Driscoll:
…And as a nice sequel of sorts to our previous post on leftwing cognitive dissonance, Orrin Judd spots this staggering moment of hypocrisy from the New York Times’ Andrew C. Revkin of their “Dot Earth” blog on Friday:
The documents appear to have been acquired illegally and contain all manner of private information and statements that were never intended for the public eye, so they won’t be posted here.
And they don’t contain any obvious state military secrets as well, unlike say the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War or more recently, the secrets of War on Terror, or any of a number of other leaked documents the Times has cheerfully rushed to print.
Back in 2006, when his paper disclosed the previously confidential details of the SWIFT program, which was designed to trace terrorists’ financial assets, New York Times executive editor Bill Keller said on CBS’s Face the Nation, “one man’s breach of security is another man’s public relations.” Of course, much like the rest of the media circling the wagons with ACORN, it’s not at all surprising that the Times circles the wagons when it’s necessary to save the public face of their fellow liberals.
Notes Michael Goldfarb:
As a journalist, there is no greater glory than publishing materials that were not meant to be published. If I could, I would only publish emails and documents that were never meant to see the light of day — though, unlike the New York Times, I draw the line at jeopardizing the lives of American troops rather than jeopardizing the contrived “consensus” on global warming.
Nope…no liberal media bias!
ACORN got caught again, helping out an undercover pimp and prostitute (and child slave traffickers). Why is this one so different than the others?
Simple. ACORN’s Philly office director asserted that they tossed out the undercover couple without trying to aid and abet the couple’s illegal activities. The MSM, led by the Washington “skewed poll samples” comPost, as well as the moonbatosphere, simply took the ACORN worker’s word for it and reported her side as fact.
There’s just one problem with the ACORN version: it’s not true. And Andrew Breitbart has the video to prove it.
Seriously, the MSM defense was basically “ACORN isn’t 100% corrupt, because we did find one office that threw the couple out!” Isn’t that like saying “Jeffrey Dahmer wasn’t totally a cannibal, because there was one victim he didn’t eat”? In the MSM’s case, their one instance of proof…isn’t.
If only the MSM had worked this hard to expose the criminal enterprise known as ACORN, perhaps the child sex slave abetters at ACORN would have been stopped a long time ago. Instead, the MSM is intent on finding dirt on the people who did the MSM’s freakin’ job for them. Some gratitude, huh? Details here.
Allah brings up a great point: What is on the video that evidence of a coordinated conservative operation (which doesn’t exist) would disprove? In other words, my eyes and ears show me an organization in ACORN that is trying to help two purported criminals (a pimp and his ho’) engage in two forms of criminal activity (tax evasion, child trafficking)…and this video evidence would be debunked if I found out that Karl Rove bankrolled the operation? Seriously?
Nope…no liberal media bias!
B.O. says he hasn’t really followed ACORN that much…then he punts on whether or not he would sign a bill to defund the criminal-abetting organization. Excerpt from an interview with George Snuffalupagus of ABC News:
STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?
OBAMA: You know, if — frankly, it’s not really something I’ve followed closely. I didn’t even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Both the Senate and the House have voted to cut it off.
OBAMA: You know, what I know is, is that what I saw on that video was certainly inappropriate and deserves to be investigated.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re not committing to — to cut off the federal funding?
OBAMA: George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It’s not something I’m paying a lot of attention to.
Anyone ever seen the 1980’s movie Pee Wee’s Big Adventure? Pee Wee Herman falls off of his bike in front of a crowd while doing tricks, gets up, and says defiantly “I meant to do that!”
That’s ACORN’s spin. Details:
The head organizer for California ACORN says a new video that appears to show a staffer at the organization’s San Bernardino office is fake journalism.
The video, which was posted shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday on a Web site called Big Government.com, shows a female ACORN employee talking to a man who claims to be a pimp interested in establishing a brothel where underage immigrant prostitutes would turn tricks in order to raise money for political activity.
The woman, identified on the video as Tresa Kaelke, appears on posted footage to be interested in cooperating the plan. However, California ACORN head organizer Amy Schur said the video is a gross misrepresentation of what actually happened.
“In this video, there are two actors who come into our office and who were messing with us. And our employee was messing with them,” Schur said. …
The words “Yeah, sure. Uh-huh. Right. Whatever you say!” aren’t nearly descriptive enough.
Instance #1: Chuck Todd (yeah, that Chuck Todd) of the hopelessly left-wing MSNBC network wonders if covering the Van Jones story (which never happened on their network, until his resignation was tendered) was actually “the best use of the time of the mainstream media”. Video clip and partial transcript here.
Instance #2: Charlie Gibson of ABC (aka the ObamaCare Infomercial Network) was asked about the recent ACORN bombshells. Chuckie responded with basically a “Hey, that’s news to me! Never heard of it before now.” He then said that such a story should be “just one you leave to the cables.” Why not? That’s where everyone’s going for their news these days, anyway.
Nope…no liberal media bias!
Recall last week’s story where ACORN was exposed assisting a perceived pimp and prostitute looking to evade taxes and traffic a child sex slave. Well, it wasn’t an isolated incident, as the same investigative organization exposed more incidents nearly identical in nature. As a result, ACORN fired more “renegade” workers.
So, what has happened since then? A few interesting developments, really.
1. Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) is calling for an investigation into ACORN.
2. The state of Maryland is…are you freakin’ kidding me?…investigating the people who exposed ACORN’s shameful and illegal activities! Why investigate the people who are abetting child trafficking and tax evasion when you can investigate the people who expose them, right? The fact that the MD state attorney, Patricia Jessamy, just so happens to be a flaming liberal Democrat B.O. supporter is nothing more than a big ol’ coinkidink.
3. Maryland’s ACORN chapter has attributed the backlash they face to…yep, you guessed it…racism. Namely, Fox News’ “racist coverage”. Because playing a video tape with actual ACORN workers commiting crimes is racist, right?
4. ACORN is now removed from being a part of the 2010 census. B.O. could only ignore so much, couldn’t he? Prediction: “This isn’t the ACORN I thought I knew.”
I. Love. It!
UPDATE (09/14/2009 – 08:25 pm EST): Three updates for now:
(1) As RR pointed out in the comments, ACORN is in trouble over vote fraud in Florida;
(2) the Senate voted 83-7 to stop federal funds from reaching ACORN. The seven abetters of child sex trafficking, income tax evasion, and voter fraud are as follows: Burris (D-IL), Casey (D-PA), Durbin (D-IL), Gillibrand (D-NY), Leahy (D-VT), Whitehouse (D-RI), and Sanders (I-VT)…all Democrats (Sanders is a Socialist Party member who votes with Democrats). Go figure.
(3) the MSM is, by and large, still refusing to cover the ACORN pimp/ho’/kiddie trafficking story. This al-Reuters story, though, does mention it…but whitewashed a bit:
A poverty-rights group that has drawn the ire of conservatives suffered another setback in Washington on Monday when the U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly to deny it access to federal housing funds.
The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which helps poor people fight foreclosures and fix tax problems, has received more than $53 million in U.S. funds since 1994, but conservatives’ charges of widespread fraud have begun to impact its reputation in the capital.
Yeah, this poor old “poverty rights group” was a victim of those mean ol’ conservatives who somehow convinced 83 Senators in a Democrat-controlled Senate to go along with them. Only in MSM la-la-land could the conservatives who are in the minority in the House and Senate wield that much power.
Exit question: Do ALL “poverty rights groups” engage in vote fraud and the aforementioned other criminal activities?
UPDATE: Obama’s ACORN buddies giving advice on evading taxes and trafficking minors…to pimp and prostitute!
And these are the guys B.O. wants running the census? How sick! Details:
Officials with the controversial community organizing group ACORN were secretly videotaped offering to assist two individuals posing as a pimp and a prostitute, encouraging them to lie to the Internal Revenue Service and providing guidance on how to claim underage girls from South America as dependents.
The videotape was made public Thursday on BigGovernment.com, a political blog launched by Andrew Breitbart as a companion site to his BigHollywood.breitbart.com blog.
In the videotape, made on July 24, James O’Keefe, a 25-year-old independent filmmaker, posed as a pimp with a 20-year-old woman named “Kenya” who posed as a prostitute while visiting ACORN’s office in Baltimore. The couple told ACORN staffers they wanted to secure housing where the woman could continue to maintain a prostitution business. …
A spokesman for ACORN, Scott Levenson, when asked to comment on the videotape, said: “The portrayal is false and defamatory and an attempt at gotcha journalism. This film crew tried to pull this sham at other offices and failed. ACORN wants to see the full video before commenting further.”
Exit question: If, as ACORN admits, they haven’t seen the full tape, then how do they know “the portrayal is false”…hmmmmm? I guess we know from where B.O. got his “I don’t have all the facts, but I just know the cops acted stupidly!” way of thinking. His pals at ACORN think the same way.
UPDATE (09/11/2009 – 08:00 AM EST): The video with the “false portrayal” has resulted in a couple of ACORN workers getting fired. I suppose ACORN figured out that you can actually learn a lot about a situation when you actually see it for yourself!
