Quote of the day, “We have to pass it to see what’s in it, redux” edition
Not content with damning America with unintended consequences of ObamaCare’s passage, the left has apparently concluded that passing legislation they haven’t read and don’t understand is superwickedawesome. Chris Dodd (D-Corrupticut) took time out from his highly corrupt life busy schedule to weigh in on the financial reform bill that passed the Senate:
No one will know until this is actually in place how it works.
Because that worked out so darned well with the passage of ObamaCare, no?
It took them long enough, right? Dodd blames BP oil spill on…you guessed it…Bush!
So to assuage that anticipated criticism, the White House has quickly laid on a Friday presidential trip back down to Louisiana, his second. He didn’t see a drop of oil during the first one. But it looks good on TV. (See Related Items links below the video.)
Chris Dodd has been in the U.S. Senate now for five six-year terms and might have been looking into drilling safety precautions instead of special mortgage deals. So he too is eager to spread blame elsewhere.
You’ll never guess which recent Republican president Dodd tries to finger for last month’s underwater blowout.
You should watch the video at the link, where Imus takes Dodd to task for blaming Bush (around the 1:21 mark). But hey, Dodd’s got his meme, and he ain’t lettin’ go anytime soon.
UPDATED: Dodd’s seat in CT in danger of flipping to GOP?
UPDATES BELOW.
Before the corrupt Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) announced his intent to not seek re-election, that seat was a guaranteed GOP pick-up, even in a state as blue as CT. Dodd succumbed to the party machine’s request that he not seek re-election, and it has looked ever since that the seat would remain in Corruptocrat hands.
Well, maybe not. The frontrunner on the Dem side, CT Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, has been caught in a scandalous and humiliating lie. Details exposed by…wait, what? The NYT? OK, how did this make it past the editors?
“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”
There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.
Hey, at least when Jean-Francois Heinz-Kerry reminded us ad nauseum that he served in Vietnam, he was actually there.
On the one hand, this kind of startling discovery brings a huge negative stigma that would sink virtually any campaign. On the other hand, penning kiddie p$rn wasn’t enough to sink Jim “Cambodian Boy” Webb back in 2006, nor was boinking an underage male House page enough to unseat Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA), so don’t ever underestimate the depravity of Democrats in an election.
UPDATE (5/18/2010 – 2:01 PM EST): So who comes galloping to Blumenthal’s rescue with a glowing character reference? Chris “Countrywide” Dodd himself! Are they trying to lose this seat?
