Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Time magazines adds “Barack’s Beauties” to list of “100 Most Beautiful People”

Would this be the same “objective” magazine that has had Oprompter on its cover 13 times in the last 10 months?  Yes, it would.  Details:

Breast cancer survivor Christina Applegate made the cover of People magazine’s 100 most beautiful people issue on Wednesday in a list that welcomed newcomers U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and “Twilight” heart-throb Robert Pattinson.

….Also included in a “Barack’s Beauties” section were White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and others.

What, no Janet Napolitano?

From Weasel Zippers:

beavisgeithner

Notes Allahpundit:

Michelle O making the list was a given — I’m reasonably sure Laura Bush made it too once or twice — and I’ve been told by more than one woman that Emanuel has the raw animal magnetism that only a profane male ex-ballerina can project ( 😆 – Ed. ).   But TurboTax Tim? What’s the appeal, ladies? Does his tax dodging give him a certain rebel derring-do? Does his deer-in-the-headlights confusion when answering questions about TARP make you want to mother him or something? Help me out.

Now I’m not trying to be superficial or anything, especially since I’m not exactly God’s gift to women or anything.  Then again, I’m not in Time’s list, either, but is it wrong for me to think that I might be just a tad bit more appealing on the eyes than Beavis Geithner or Dead Fish Emanuel?

Nope…no liberal media bias!

UPDATED: Obama administration thought it would be a great photo-op to send low-flying planes over NYC

UPDATES BELOW.

As sheer luck would have it, the citizens of the Big Apple panicked when the B.O. photo op’s targets flew low over their city.  Who knew?

It’s as if something involving low-flying planes and big buildings happened there almost eight years ago.  Or something.  For those of you on the left, feel free to Google “9/11/2001”.  It was kind of a big deal and stuff.

Smooth move, Ex Lax.

UPDATE (04/29/2009 – 08:18 A.M. EST):  It appears that the FAA knew ahead of time that this $329,000 stunt would cause a public panic…and they threatened NYPD and the mayor’s office with federal sanctions if they gave New Yorkers a heads-up:

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration’s James Johnston said the agency was aware of “the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes” in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor’s office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out…

Night and Day, “Specter’s loyalty” edition

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), on March 17:

I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That’s the basis of politics in America. I’m afraid we are becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party with so little representation of the northeast or in the middle atlantic. I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance. That’s a very important principle in the operation of our government. In the constitution on Separation of powers.

Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA), today:

Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.

I suppose the fact that Snarlin’ Arlen was trailing Pat Toomey by 21% in the PA GOP primary had nothing to do with his decision, no?  That would certainly explain how just a month after professing his “courageous” commitment to prevent one-party domination in DC or “regional representation” for the party, he just so happens to “now” finds his philosophy more left than right.

Considering the ease with which he lied, and the lack of shame involved in such a lie, I’d say he should fit in quite nicely with his new party.  Those people certainly have no qualms about fraternizing with liars whose words are worth the paper on which they are printed.

Dem Congressman wants to close the Mexican border

Finally, a Dem with some common sense about the security risk posed by a porous border with Mexico!  At long last, a leftie who recognizes the economic drain on this country by the hordes of criminal immigrants taxing our social infrastructure with demands on our criminal justice system, health care system, etc.!

Just kidding.  His sole concern is the swine flu problem.  All those other problems are no big whoop.

To recap: Closing the border due to reasons unrelated to swine flu is not feasible, but closing the border due to to swine flu is totally doable and a moral imperative.

Got it.  Thanks for the clarification.

Night and Day, “Pelosi’s memory” edition

Pe-loco before:

Pelosi says she was briefed by Bush administration officials on the legal justification for using waterboarding — but that they never followed through on promises to inform her when they actually began using “enhanced” interrogation techniques

“In that or any other briefing…we were not, and I repeat, were not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation techniques were used. What they did tell us is that they had some legislative counsel … opinions that they could be used,” she told reporters today.

Pe-loser after:

In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA’s overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.

Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. But on that day, no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said.

Dishonesty ain’t just a river in Egypt.  Or something.  You get the drift.

Happy Earth Day!

Here are the top 10 things I plan on doing today to commemorate Earth Day:

  1. Drive a Hummer, several miles.
  2. Buy a can of hair spray, and since I won’t need it on account of being BBB (bald but beautiful!), empty the whole can into the atmosphere.
  3. Shoot a spotted owl.
  4. Grill a manatee.
  5. Take a Black and Decker chainsaw to as many trees as I can before sundown.
  6. Find a cow pasture and fart with some cows, since apparently flatulence leads to global “warming”.
  7. Start a bonfire with 1,000 copies of Al Gore’s “Earth in the Balance” manifesto.
  8. Leave every electric appliance on in my house until after midnight, so my home can show up on one of those nighttime satellite image thingies.
  9. Pee in the river.
  10. Take a firehose of gushing soap and water to those treesitters in Beserkley.

What about your plans?

Obama’s idea of fiscal responsibility? Forego one latté a year!

When he’s not busy pushing for yet another tax on the middle class that his veep promised wouldn’t happen, Oprompter likes to pass the time balancing the budget.  Or something.

Excerpt:

Cut a latte or two out of your annual budget and you’ve just done as much belt-tightening as President Barack Obama asked of his Cabinet on Monday.

The thrifty measures Obama ordered for federal agencies are the equivalent of asking a family that spends $60,000 in a year to save $6.

Wow…a whole 0.003% of the $3.5 trillion budget.  Boy, that B.O. sure does know how to make the tough calls in the budget, no?  Uh, no.

Even members of the press corps are asking “WTH“?

Obama: Hey, how’s about we prosecute the folks who prevented an al Qaeda attack on L.A.?

Man, for a non-Muslim, dude sure seems to get his turban boxers in a bunch over successful efforts to thwart bloodthirsty jihadist camelhumper attacks.  Just sayin’.

Excerpt:

The Central Intelligence Agency told CNSNews.com today that it stands by the assertion made in a May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that the use of “enhanced techniques” of interrogation on al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) — including the use of waterboarding — caused KSM to reveal information that allowed the U.S. government to thwart a planned attack on Los Angeles. Before he was waterboarded, when KSM was asked about planned attacks on the United States, he ominously told his CIA interrogators, “Soon, you will know.” According to the previously classified May 30, 2005 Justice Department memo that was released by President Barack Obama last week, the thwarted attack — which KSM called the “Second Wave”– planned “ ‘to use East Asian operatives to crash a hijacked airliner into’ a building in Los Angeles.”

Here’s the conundrum for the left:  Supposedly, torture doesn’t work, right?  But supposedly, Bushitler McRummyburton “tortured” Al Qaeda detainees.  As the evidence shows, we obtained plum information from these supposed “torture” techniques that prevented tons of American deaths.

So either (a) “torture” DOES work and Bushco were guilty of, um, saving American lives; or (b) this was NOT considered “torture” by Darth Cheney and friends, since “torture” doesn’t work.  Either way, the left is screwed in their arguments.  😆

It appears that this is yet another one of Uhhh-bama’s many promises that have expiration dates.  Anything to throw the moonbat base who elected him a bone, right?  Disgusting and shameful.

Friggin’ brilliant, B.O.  Let’s punish the people who prevented the Left Coast from getting whacked 9/11-style.

Obama wraps up “My country sucks” tour

We were warned that a B.O. presidency would be a second Carter administration, and we’re seeing that in many respects: punishing the successful, increasing our dependence on foreign energy, crushing taxes, and now, shameless pandering to international dictators and thugs.

Quoth The One:

“We have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms,” Obama said to loud applause. “But I pledge to you that we seek an equal partnership. There is no senior partner and junior partner in our relations.”

So we shouldn’t “dictate” our interests to anyone, right?  But we should make kissyface with dictators who, by definition, dictate their interests to everyone.  Friggin’ brilliant, B.O.

His buddy Hugo then gives him a present: a viciously anti-American book.  B.O. accepts it gratefully.  Heck, B.O. likely agrees with everything in the book anyway.  Preaching to the choir, are we, Hugo?

Notes Oprompter:

“You know, I thought it was one of Chavez’s books,” Obama answered. “I was going to give him one of mine.”

Which book is that, Das Kapital?

Exit question: Why would you want to be president of a country you didn’t even like?

 Hugo Hearts Obama

And to think that anyone would perceive Obama as a socialist?

Obama asks Georgetown to cover up Jesus’ name for his speech

That noted self-professed pro-abortion, notoriously corrupt, pathological lying “Christian” president of ours has figured out a new way to show his faith (aside from not looking for a church).  Details:

Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”–symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the “IHS” monogram that had previously adorned the stage at Georgetown’s Gaston Hall was still covered up–when the pediment where it had appeared was photographed by CNSNews.com. …

Georgetown ought to be ashamed of themselves for compromising their Catholic background to accommodate such a request.  Laura Bush spoke at GU three years ago, and she didn’t ask for them to cover up the symbol for “logisitical” purposes.  Just sayin’…

Luke 9:26 says “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”  Good luck with that, Barry…and Georgetown.

Obama: Hey, how about an unsafe-yet-on time national railway?

B.O. yesterday on his utopian vision for national mass transit via the railways:

What we need, then, is a smart transportation system equal to the needs of the 21st century. A system that reduces travel times and increases mobility. A system that reduces congestion and boosts productivity. A system that reduces destructive emissions and creates jobs.

What we’re talking about is a vision for high-speed rail in America. Imagine boarding a train in the center of a city. No racing to an airport and across a terminal, no delays, no sitting on the tarmac, no lost luggage, no taking off your shoes.

Geez, where to start?  How about here?  “Imagine boarding a train in the center of a city. No racing to an airport and across a terminal, no delays…”

Does it not stand to reason that “racing to an airport” will merely be replaced by “racing to the train station”?  I mean, you still have to get there, right?  And just as you have to “race across a terminal” at the airport, do you not have to race across the railway’s terminal (or whatever its equivalent is)?  Plus, what kind of naive jackass honestly believes that there won’t be any delays with a rail system?  Every system of mass transit has some delays, because delays are unforeseen…well, unless he’s using His divine insight sent down from On High to see these things.  My bad, I almost forgot we were talking about the Obamessiah here.

This one’s a hoot:  “no taking off your shoes “!

Friggin’ brilliant, Big O.  So we’re not going to have any railway security measures to prevent future Richard Reids from blowing up our trains, huh?  I guess that only makes sense, since, after all, there haven’t ever been any terrorist attacks on major rail systems anywhere in the world.  Oh, wait

Yes, sir, we’re in good hands, my friends.  For those of you on the left, the prior sentence was sarcasm.

Obama’s DHS declares war on you and me

Remember the left-wing paranoia that Bushitler McRummyburton was going to lead us to Orwellian days of government oppression?  Well, replace “left-wing paranoia” with “legit concerns” and “Bushitler McRummyburton” with “the Obama administration” and you’ve got an accurate description of this (PDF of DHS memo).  Excerpt from Hot Air:

Michelle has it covered pretty well, but I looked at the DHS report on “right-wing extremism” myself, and it’s every bit as bad as she says, and as Roger Hedgecock and the Liberty Papers first reported. The DHS fails to provide any specifics at all, preferring instead to smear half of the country or more as kooks for criticizing the government’s handling of the economy. As Eli Lake reports, the DHS has all but declared war on federalism, which used to be the founding concept of our republic:

The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in “rightwing extremist activity,” saying the economic recession, the election of America’s first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.

A footnote attached to the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines “rightwing extremism in the United States” as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.

“It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration,” the warning says.

The first question we should ask is whether the DHS is reacting to any specific threats at all? Er … no (emphasis mine):

The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing* terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues.

This gets repeated over and over again during the report. They have no threat information. In fact, the report can’t even say definitively whether “extremists” are gaining “new recruits”. In order to find that, they’d have to identify the actual groups, note the recruiting patterns, and determine whether in fact they’re gaining recruits or losing members. Bottom line: DHS has no actual data. They’re pulling threats out of their collective arse and publishing them without any supporting research whatsoever.

The document goes on to impugn veterans, especially those returning from war, as nutjobs teetering on the brink of becoming the next Tim McVeigh.  But hey, the left loves the troops, right?

Here’s a shameful excerpt:

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

By their own definition, the administration would have to believe that the Founding Fathers were “right-wing extremists” and potential terrorists…as are/were anybody who believes in the Constitution and its 10th Amendment (i.e. the “states rights” amendment).  Therefore, if you believe that the 10th Amendment means what it says, then you are apparently a rightwing extremist.  If you believe that life begins at conception, then you are a rightwing extremist (which apparently means that the vice president is a wingnut…who knew?).

There’s more:

Rightwing extremist chatter on the Internet continues to focus on the economy, the perceived loss of U.S. jobs in the manufacturing and construction sectors, and home foreclosures.

Worrying about the economy, jobs, and foreclosures also makes a person a “rightwing extremist”?  And you thought Bubba was the president best at redefining English!

It’s gonna get fun out there, folks.

Photo-ops with the troops are shameful really cool!

I had to modify the post title when I realized the MSM had done an about-face on the issue of presidents having staged photo-ops with the soldiers.  If only I could figure out why the sudden MSM change of heart…

Treacher reminds us of how the left and the MSM (pardon the redundancy) reacted with Bush posing with legions of adoring soldiers.  They feigned outrage, appearing angrier than Barney Frank when he can’t find his pink fishnet stockings.  So how did the MSM cover the “fans only” photo-op?  Much like you’d expect them to:

Cheered wildly by U.S. troops, President Barack Obama flew unannounced into Iraq on Tuesday and promptly declared it was time for Iraqis to “take responsibility for their country” after America’s commitment of six years and thousands of lives.

Yeah…”unannounced”, huh?

…about that “surprise visit”.

It wasn’t. The visit was communicated a full 24 hours in advance and a small contingent of soldiers – not screaming hordes – were rustled into a meeting place at Camp Victory.

Got this email from a sergeant that was there.

We were pre-screened, asked by officials “Who voted for Obama?”, and then those who raised their hands were shuffled to the front of the receiving line. They even handed out digital cameras and asked them to hold them up.

Take a look at the picture at AP and notice all the cameras are the same models. Coincidence? I think not.

Shameful, no? But no, no liberal media bias or nothin’!

Euros get a chance to see Uhhh-bama’s rhetorical genius

Boy, it sure is a good thing we have ourselves an eloquent orator for a president these days, instead of that Bush guy!  Right?  Yeah, right (excerpt below, but do yourself a favor and read the whole thing):

Barack Obama: “I, I, would say that, er … pause [I HAVEN’T A CLUE] … if you look at … pause [WHO IS THIS NICK ROBINSON JERK?] … the, the sources of this crisis … pause [JUST KEEP GOING, BUDDY] … the United States certainly has some accounting to do with respect to . . . pause [I’M IN WAY TOO DEEP HERE] … a regulatory system that was inadequate to the massive changes that have taken place in the global financial system … pause, close eyes [THIS IS GOING TO GO DOWN LIKE A CROCK OF SH#T BACK HOME. HELP]. I think what is also true is that … pause [I WANT NICK ROBINSON TO DISAPPEAR] … here in Great Britain … pause [SH#T, GORDY’S THE HOST, DON’T LAND HIM IN IT] … here in continental Europe … pause [DAMN IT, BLAME EVERYONE.] … around the world. We were seeing the same mismatch between the regulatory regimes that were in place and er … pause [I’VE LOST MY TRAIN OF THOUGHT AGAIN]

Congressional Black Caucus: Meeting Castro was da bomb!

Yo, yo, yo, dawg!  Wuddup in da HAV?  The CBC is just kickin’ it on the southside, yo!  Details:

Key members of the Congressional Black Caucus are calling for an end to U.S. prohibition on travel to Cuba, just hours after a meeting with former Cuban president Fidel Castro in Havana.

“The fifty-year embargo just hasn’t worked,” CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Ca.) told reporters this evening at a Capitol press conference after returning from a congressional delegation visit to Cuba. “The bottom line is that we believe its time to open dialogue with Cuba.”

“It was quite a moment to behold,” Lee said, recalling her moments with Castro.

It was almost like listening to an old friend,” said Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Il.), adding that he found Castro’s home to be modest and Castro’s wife to be particularly hospitable.

“In my household I told Castro he is known as the ultimate survivor,” Rush said.

An “old friend” who just so happens to jail and/or execute dissenters.  With homies like that…

But hey, where would you get the crazy idea that liberal Democrats are commies or socialists or anything?

Obama sings Kumbaya demands end to nuclear arms

During the campaign, Oprompter was criticized for being a leftist wimp when it comes to matters of national security.  This weekend, he sought to end all doubts about it: he is indeed such a wimp.  Cue “Puff the Magic Dragon” for this:

Going off script to borrow his signature campaign line, Obama acknowledged a nuclear-free world will not happen easily.

“I’m not naive. (Um, yeah…you are. – Ed.)  This goal will not be reached quickly –- perhaps not in my lifetime. It will take patience and persistence,” he told an adoring crowd that waved miniature American and Czech flags. “But now we, too, must ignore the voices who tell us that the world cannot change. We have to insist, “Yes, we can.”

What did the NorKoms think?  What do you think they thought?

At least Uhhh-bama had an appropriate reaction to the NorKoms:

North Korea’s development and proliferation of ballistic missile technology pose a threat to the northeast Asian region and to international peace and security. The launch today of a Taepo-dong 2 missile was a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718, which expressly prohibits North Korea from conducting ballistic missile-related activities of any kind. With this provocative act, North Korea has ignored its international obligations, rejected unequivocal calls for restraint, and further isolated itself from the community of nations.

We will immediately consult with our allies in the region, including Japan and the Republic of Korea, and members of the U.N. Security Council to bring this matter before the Council. I urge North Korea to abide fully by the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council and to refrain from further provocative actions.

Friggin’ brilliant, B.O.:  right after you acknowledges that the NorKoms have ignored U.N. Resolutions, you call on them to…abide by U.N. Resolutions?  I mean, they did such a bang-up job the first time listening to the Useless Nations resolutions, right?  You master diplomat, you!  Heck, you criticized your own country while sucking up to the Euros, but you can’t use stronger language in dealing with the NorKoms?

Elections. Have. Consequences.

Night and Day, “Obama lies about taxes” edition

Something tells me that this is going to be a regular feature here at Crush Liberalism.  Anywho, here’s Oprompter and the Vice-Plagiarist on the campaign trail:

“Listen now,” he said in his widely watched nomination acceptance speech, “I will cut taxes—cut taxes—for 95 percent of all working families, because, in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle class.”

An unequivocal “any tax” pledge also was heard in the vice presidential debate, another prominent forum.

“No one making less than $250,000 under Barack Obama’s plan will see one single penny of their tax raised,” Joe Biden said, “whether it’s their capital gains tax, their income tax, investment tax, any tax.”

And here’s today:

One of President Barack Obama’s campaign pledges on taxes went up in puffs of smoke Wednesday.

The largest increase in tobacco taxes took effect despite Obama’s promise not to raise taxes of any kind on families earning under $250,000 or individuals under $200,000.

This is one tax that disproportionately affects the poor, who are more likely to smoke than the rich.

It’s kinda like he’s a lying tax-and-spend liberal or something.  Actually, it’s a lot like that.  Didn’t we grown-ups warn you Kool-Aid drinkers this would happen?

Face it: Democrats just don’t like to cut taxes.  They like to raise them, and as this lie shows, they like to raise them on anyone…not just the “rich”!
