Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Sick BBC newsbabe laments lack of glowing Taliban coverage

Only from the openly liberal Beeb (or possibly al-Reuters and/or Al Jazeera)!  Details:

A BBC news girl attacked TV yesterday for failing to show viewers the Taliban’s “humanity”.

Presenter Lyse Doucet’s astonishing statement comes as an Apache gunship hero revealed the fanatics aim to capture a British soldier and SKIN HIM LIVE on the internet.

Military Cross winner Ed Macy — whose book Apache is serialised in The Sun from today — tells how an intelligence officer gave details of the Taliban butchers’ sick plan.

It made Army Air Corps Warrant Officer Macy and his comrades even more determined to rescue a mortally wounded Marine from a Taliban stronghold — which they did with four soldiers strapped to the outside of two Apaches.

But BBC World News correspondent Doucet claimed the public also want to seeing the kinder side of the Afghan extremists.

Asked what was missing in media coverage, she said: “It may sound odd but the humanity of the Taliban, because they are a wide, very diverse group of people.”

Canadian-born Doucet, 49, told the Edinburgh TV festival: “Some would like to talk to the British Government. Some of them don’t want to be fighting British troops. Some of them would. This is the ideological Taliban.”

Doucet, with the BBC since 1983, also criticised the reporting of Prince Harry’s Army service in Afghanistan.

She said: “You knew the bombs were dropping and the guns were pointing in that direction but you never got a sense of how Afghans are as a people.” …

Unfriggingbelievable!

BBC: Elections in America could result in arrest of bloggers

The Beeb has an article about bloggers around the world who get arrested for reporting human rights abuses and criticizing tyrannical and oppressive governments.  For those of you on the left, the American government is not considered tyrannical or oppressive.  Article here.

It’s certainly a newsworthy story.  But the Beeb being the Beeb (i.e. transparently and unashamedly liberal in its reporting), the last sentence had to throw in this gem:

…The report predicted that the number of blogger arrests in 2008 would exceed the 36 seen in 2007 thanks to greater popularity of blogging as a medium, greater enforcement of net restrictions, and elections in China, Pakistan, Iran and the US.

If I had a dime for every time we arrested a blogger in this country for criticizing the government (or politicians), I would…uh…not have a dime.  But of course, the Beeb displays the broken “moral equivalence” meter to which we’ve become accustomed.

The Beeb’s article references a report from World Information Access that indicates three bloggers have been arrested in the U.S.  How’s about a little insight, whatsay?

  • Daniel Aljughaifi. Trained with al Qaeda. Nuff said.
  • Jack McClellan. Self-proclaimed pedophile. Attracted to, photographing, and posting pictures of little girls. (Sidebar: had he posted pictures of Cambodian boys, he could have gotten elected Senator from Virginia. Them’s the breaks).  Violated restraining order.
  • Josh Wolf.  Refused to submit evidence he possessed to a grand jury in a criminal investigation.

Not a single one of those vermin were arrested for being critical of the U.S., the administration, a politician, or whatever.  They were arrested for training with the terrorist organization that attacked us on 9/11/2001, for possessing kiddie p0rn and violating a restraining order, and for ignoring a grand jury subpoena.  But leave it to the Beeb to equate that with the Burma blogger round-up.  Idiots.

BBC pushing Mugabe talking points as fact

The admittedly leftist biased BBC is running interference for Zimbabwe socialist dictator Robert Mugabe while Mugabe is in the midst of stealing another election.  The party opposing Mugabe’s 150,000% inflation and 85% unemployment policies is accusing Mugabe of trying to assassinate their leader before June’s run-off.  The Beeb’s headline?

Zimbabwe scoffs at plot fantasy“!

The same BBC that refuses to use the word “terrorist” to describe Islamic terrorists (and on the rare occasion it does use the word, it puts the word terrorist in quotes to show a dispute of the word’s usage) has no qualms about using the word “fantasy” without the quotes to convey a sense of fact on Mugabe’s allegations.

I would use my usual tagline “Nope…no liberal media bias!”, but since the Beeb is open about its bias, I guess I don’t need the tagline.

Beeb: al-Qaida wants McCain to win

Not that I’m outraged that much, considering that the Beeb is open about its liberal bias.  From Weasel Zippers:

This is via Justin Webb, the BBC’s North American editor. Who displays the insanely hard-left slant the BBC is known for and even embraces, as is painfully evident here…..

Islamic terrorists want war. They want suffering – among others and their own people alike.

They would surely surmise that McCain will give them what they want. Bin Laden himself intervened with what many thought was the effect of keeping President Bush in power in 2004 with that weird tape just before the poll.

I think al-Qaeda would back McCain – that is not an argument for or against America backing him, but it seems to me that the vague assumption that the terrorists would back a lefty is lazy thinking…

Nope, no liberal media bias…um…never mind.

Hope for Euros yet! Poll: Brits more worried about Fido’s piles than global "warming"

From the Beeb:

The public believes the effects of global warming on the climate are not as bad as politicians and scientists claim, a poll has suggested.
The Ipsos Mori poll of 2,032 adults – interviewed between 14 and 20 June – found 56% believed scientists were still questioning climate change.

There was a feeling the problem was exaggerated to make money, it found.

The Royal Society said most climate scientists believed humans were having an “unprecedented” effect on climate.

The survey suggested that terrorism, graffiti, crime and dog mess were all of more concern than climate change.

Graffiti? Dog crap? Those things worry Brits more than does that piece of science fiction known as global “warming” (or “climate change”, depending on the time of the year).

Hamas member works for the Beeb

That would explain why the Beeb was soliciting tips on allied troop locations in Iraq last month, now wouldn’t it? From Hot Air:

And just like that, last summer’s controversy over the mixed motives of Arab stringers takes on a repulsive yet exciting new dimension. What’s next? Hizb ut-Tahrir members working for the Guardian?

Despite Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) opposition and per the request of the BBC, the coordinator of government activities allowed a Hamas member who works for the BBC to enter the Gaza Strip last week to assist in efforts to release kidnapped journalist Alan Johnston.

Defense officials told The Jerusalem Post that a week ago, a request came from the BBC asking that a Palestinian employee of the news company who is believed to be a close associate of senior Hamas officials be allowed to enter Gaza.

And to think, I thought the biggest absurdity of the Alan Johnston kidnapping would be Hamas playing the role of hostage negotiator. Exit question one: Why would an infamously left-wing news organization employ members of a genocidal religious fascist group? Hmmm.

LGF asks a valid question: “Can anyone explain to me how this does not violate British law? Because Hamas is an officially proscribed terror group in the UK.”

Nope…no liberal media bias! Actually, I can’t use that tagline anymore for the Beeb, since they admitted that they are indeed left-wing.

Beeb’s newsroom Godwins itself

From Moonbattery:

Ray Drake of the highly recommended blog Davids Medienkritik was interviewed in an excellent two-part report by the Christian Broadcasting Network on anti-Americanism in the European media.

Though you won’t be surprised, you will be appalled. Here’s an excerpt:

Polls clearly show that Europeans have turned against America in increasing numbers. You can blame Iraq or George Bush. But it’s also true that Europeans have been fed a steady diet of media distortions about America for years.

And if you repeat a distortion long enough, it can become reality.

A former BBC journalist says a drawing of Bush as Hitler is hung in the BBC newsroom.

Not that this should surprise anyone, especially since the Beeb admits its own moonbattery. I just wish the left would stop pretending that the Beeb is a legitimate news source, when by their own admission, they’re a mouthpiece for the left.

Beeb fesses up: Yep, we’re liberal!

At least they’re transparent about it now, so I can justify ignoring them as a credible news source henceforth. Observe:

The BBC, the British Broadcasting Corporation, has acknowledged the network is biased toward the left, following a report commissioned by the company.

A yearlong probe revealed the corporation especially partial in its treatment of single-issue politics such as climate change, poverty, race and religion, according to the London Times.

“It concludes that the bias has extended across drama, comedy and entertainment, with the corporation pandering to politically motivated celebrities and trendy causes,” the paper said.

The report cites the danger of BBC programs being undermined by the liberal culture of its staff, who need to challenge their own assumptions more.

“There is a tendency to ‘group think’ with too many staff inhabiting a shared space and comfort zone,” says the report.

It notes staff tend to mimic each other’s common left-leaning values.

A seminar on staff impartiality held last year is documented, with officials admitting they would broadcast images of the Bible being thrown away, but not the Koran for fear of offending Muslims.

No need to fear offending the Christians, since we’re not the ones who are gonna go bombing London busses or Madrid trains or anything like that. In closing:

The report also warns that celebrities must not be pandered to and allowed to hijack the BBC schedule, according to the London Telegraph.

It also offers 12 new principles for the corporation to adopt to safeguard objectivity, including:

“Impartiality is no excuse for insipid programming. It allows room for fair-minded, evidence-based judgments by senior journalists and documentary-makers, and for controversial, passionate and polemical arguments by contributors and writers.”

A BBC spokeswoman said: “This report is about looking forward and how we are going to face the challenges of impartiality in the modern world.”

As WND reported in October, an internal BBC memo revealed senior figures admitted the national news agency was guilty of promoting left-wing views and anti-Christian sentiment.

The admissions of bias were made at the impartiality summit. Most executives admitted the corporation’s representation of homosexuals and ethnic minorities was unbalanced and disproportionate.

Who knew that impartiality could be such a “challenge” to journos, huh? Nope…no liberal media bias! Actually…yep, definitely liberal media bias.
