Liberalism: Why think when you can “feel”?

Quote of the day

Don’t know who said it, but it’s spot on.

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate… willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president.”

Heh. Video at link.

At Thursday’s Mitt Romney rally in Fairfax, Virginia, one Romney supporter lambasted the media in its coverage of the election.

“I think you guys are suck-ups,” the woman said. “I think you guys got your embroidered kneepads from the White House, buddy. That’s what I think.”

Quote of the day, “Obama’s ‘real world’ edition”

Unreal.

President Barack Obama, who has spent almost all of his career and adult life in academia, law firms, and government, begins his criticism of Mitt Romney by declaring, “those of us who have spent time in the real world . . .”

It would probably be rude of me to think about Michelle Obama’s work, where her salary jumped from $121,910 to $316,962 per year after her husband became a U.S. senator, a job that was strangely left unfilled after she stepped down to focus on her husband’s campaign.

Such positions are quite challenging to find in the . . . real world.

UPDATE: Of course, Obama uses the phrase while speaking to donors at a $40,000-per-couple fundraiser.

Another “price of arugula at Whole Foods” moment from a man who’s been detached from the “real world” his entire life.

Quote of the day, “dueling perceptions of the state of the economy” edition

Obama: My policies have us better off than four years ago.

Well, you know, I think we are better off now than we would have been if I hadn’t taken all the steps that we took. I don’t think the country is stronger yet then it was when the economy was still booming and we didn’t have Wall Street crisis, and we didn’t have the housing bubble burst. But, we’ve made steady progress, we just need to make more.

Boehner: Everything that guy just said is bull$h!t. Thank you.

Are you kidding me?!” Boehner said loudly in response to a reporter’s question on the comment. “Why don’t you go ask the 14 million Americans who are out of work whether they’re better off today than they were four years ago?” …

Boehner spoke to reporters after a conference meeting in which he rallied House Republicans around the message that while the lower chamber is taking action on jobs legislation, the Senate is dithering and the president is campaigning.

Quote of the day, “Reid admits which is more important, public or private sector jobs?” edition

Dude.  Seriously?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday said Congress needs to worry about government jobs more than private-sector jobs, and that this is why Senate Democrats are pushing a bill aimed at shoring up teachers and first-responders.

“It’s very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine; it’s the public-sector jobs where we’ve lost huge numbers, and that’s what this legislation is all about,” Reid said on the Senate floor.

Right.  Government hasn’t gotten nearly big enough over the last 3.5 years, has it?

It’s not a united Republican party . . . Absolutely, it’s strong enough to beat both of us. No matter what the circumstance, at the end of the day, the American people right now, many of them are in trouble, an even larger percentage have stagnant wages and a significant majority of the American people believe the country’s not moving in the right direction. That is never a good place to be going into a reelection . . . They’re going to have to choose whether or not the path we have set the country on is the path we should go or whether we should go back to liberating the economy in the terms of . . .[voice trails off]

Quote of the day, “WHO is coming unhinged?” edition

Quote:

I think Romney has a problem, though. He’s by far the best-known candidate in the race, and he’s at 17% in the polls. That’s not so good. If he gets the nomination, and I think the odds now are very heavily that he will, he’s got a big base problem. And usually that’s not a problem. Republicans are very disciplined, they’ll pull in behind him. Actually, even the Democrats pull in behind after a fight like this. This year you have the Tea Party. They are not playing with a full deck. I mean, they could go off the rails here.

Quote of the day, “health care and socialism” edition

From the American Enterprise Institute:

Ironically, many of the problems in our current healthcare system that lead to demands for public policy fixes—the underpayment of primary care providers, overpayment for certain specialty procedures, excessive payments for medical supplies—actually originate in government-run health programs. Expecting things to get better by expanding the reach of government in medicine appears to be a triumph of hope over experience.

How odd!  I mean, the government is so efficient with what it runs (Post Office, the VA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Social Security, Medicare), so why shouldn’t we allow the feds to replicate the same level of success they’ve had in the aforementioned programs and agencies with respect to our health care system?

Quote of the day, “Obama and jack squat” edition

I love that term: jack squat. I think I’ll say it again: jack squat.

From Jim Geraghty:

Monday was one of those days when I look at a recent poll and wonder why anybody approves of Obama.

I marvel at Obama’s ability to witness every bad development on his watch and inevitably conclude that it is further evidence that he’s been right all along and that nothing he’s done or proposed required reexamination.

No matter what some agency may say, we’ve always been and always will be a triple-A country.”

Great. Now he finds his veto pen, and he wants to use it on Standard & Poor’s. What the heck does that even mean? We’re silver medalists, but in his mind, we’ll always be gold?

I’m sorry, Mr. President, but declaring that we’ll always be AAA in your heart means jack squat to lenders. Obama’s policies have just run headlong into basic market realities – too much is going out, and not enough is coming in. He and his Treasury Secretary seem to think they can demonize Standard & Poors enough to get them to ignore that fact.

Of course it’s the Tea Parties’ fault. If they hadn’t pointed out the runaway spending and debt, no one ever would have noticed, right? Sigh.

Indeed.

Someone else used to be good with “jack squat”:

Quote of the day, “Why conservatives should support the debt deal” edition

OK, this is just plain surreal.

The single best reason I’ve heard so far as to why I should support the debt deal was presented by…Dick Durbin?

The Republicans are killing Keynesian economics with their attempt to cut spending as the economy rebounds from a recession (uh…”rebounds”?  Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Durbin the Turban? – CL), Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said in a floor speech on Sunday.

“I would say … that symbolically, that agreement is moving us to the point where we are having the final interment of John Maynard Keynes,” he said, referring to the British economist. “He normally died in 1946 but it appears we are going to put him to his final rest with this agreement.”

Well, wouldn’t that be a friggin’ boo-hoo-fest?  I mean, Keynesian economics has been widly successful thus far, hasn’t it?  (For those of you on the left, the prior question was rhetorical, but in case you actually need an answer: No, it’s been a massive clusterfark of a failure!)

Quote of the day, “Obama has a firm grasp on what Americans REALLY want” edition

Guy Benson has a plethora (Three Amigos flashback) of Oprompter quotes related to the debt ceiling issue, but in my view, this one’s the biggest howler of them all:

We’re not out here trying to use this as a means of doing all these really tough political things. I’d rather be talking about stuff that everybody welcomes — like new programs

“Stuff that everybody welcomes”?

Right, which is why Americans voted en masse to toss his party’s compatriots to the curb in 2010 and put in politicians that are fighting for the exact opposite of that which he alleges we really “welcome”.  Then again, I suppose when one has lived in the leftist cocoon (or, rather, “cuckoo-n”) like ObaMao has for his entire life, it’s easy to project that kind of socialist nanny state vision on a mass of people you do not understand and to whom you cannot relate.

Quote of the day, “Obama, football, and Texas” edition

Why Oprompter doesn’t want to face Rick Perry in the 2012 general election:

A full two and a half years after taking office, Team Obama still blames Bush—for everything except the fall of Adam.  Well, there is one other elected chief executive who inherited a Bush economy: Rick Perry, as governor of Texas.  And yet I have never once heard Perry whining that the state would be doing so much better if it hadn’t been for the policies of his predecessor.

To use a football analogy—I mean, we’re talking about Texas—it’s not who hands you the football and it’s not where the ball is handed to you, it’s what you do with the ball after you have it.

Rick Perry took the ball from Bush and scored an economic touchdown for Texas.  Obama took the ball from Bush and fumbled it—repeatedly—giving the other team a chance to score a touchdown.

How well does blaming Bush work when his successor in TX didn’t seem to have a problem with the transition?

Quote of the day, “Obama is a WHAT?” edition

Heh.

Mark Halperin, editor-at-large for Time, called President Obama “a dick” on Thursday on a popular MSNBC morning show and then quickly apologized.

“I thought he was a dick yesterday,” Halperin, who also is a senior political analyst for MSNBC, said on Morning Joe, referring to the President’s conduct during his press conference.

Halperin apparently thought there was a delay for the censors to beep out his word.  It didn’t happen that way.

MSDNCNBC has responded:

“Mark Halperin’s comments this morning were completely inappropriate and unacceptable. We apologize to the President, The White House and all of our viewers,” in a statement by MSNBC spokesperson Jeremy Gaines. “We strive for a high level of discourse and comments like these have no place on our air. Therefore, Mark will be suspended indefinitely from his role as an analyst.”

If only they applied civility standards to their hosts, right?  Fortunately for Halperin, he isn’t employed full-time by MSDNC.  As such, (a) nobody was watching when he made the statement; and (b) it’s not like he’ll be yet another jobless claim on Obama’s watch.

Says the same jackwagon who said this about the Paul Ryan deficit plan?

“Their vision is less about reducing the deficit than it is about changing the basic social compact in America,” he said, supposedly pitting “children with autism or Down’s syndrome” against “every millionaire and billionaire in our society.”

The same guy who, while Hispandering, said this?

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.”

Quote of the day, “How Obama views private sector vs. public sector jobs” edition

Quoth Teh Won:

OBAMA: Let me just first of all say that workers like you, for the federal, state, and local governments, are so important for our vital services. And it frustrates me sometimes when people talk about ‘government jobs’ as if somehow those are worth less than private sector jobs. I think there is nothing more important than working on behalf of the American people.

FEDERAL WORKER: I thought I would be more important and secure.

OBAMA: I agree with you.

There you have it, straight from the jackass’ mouth: Government jobs are much more important than private sector jobs.  Never mind that it takes private sector jobs to fund public sector jobs.  Yeah, that doesn’t seem to resonate with the economic illiterate-in-chief.

Quote of the day, “Obama’s re-election strategy” edition

Heh:

As details emerged yesterday on how Osama bin Laden was killed and how the information was obtain that led to that dramatic moment, more and more Americans were reminded that President Obama was building upon the infrastructure that President Bush and his administration very quickly assembled in the wake of 9/11. Like Switzer building upon Jimmy Johnson’s efforts, President Obama was lucky enough, in spite of his own efforts to the contrary, not to dismantle it. Or as Professor William A. Jacobson quips at Legal Insurrection,Obama may be re-elected because George Bush had the good sense not to listen to Obama.

Don’t get bent about the “he may get re-elected” part, because as Doug Mataconis demonstrates, George H.W. Bush didn’t see his post-Desert Storm bounce last long: he was bounced out of office 18 months later.

Still, a humorous quip is a humorous quip.  😆

Quote of the day, “Obama’s crowning achievement” edition

From Ace:

Obama’s greatest victory of the entire past year — his crowning achievement for the past twelve months in the most powerful office in all the world — is his celebrated triumph in successfully producing a common form of secondary identification.

As of right now, that’s what he’s running on: That he, like 88% of all non-incarcerated adults in America, has access to his own personal records.

That’s what he’s got. That’s what he’s managed for 2010-2011.

Six months from now, I hear he’s going to announce a “major initiative” to subscribe to Sports Illustrated, and then a “five year plan” to buy a “nice pair of trousers.”

And as time passes, you start taking it for granted that a guy named Barack Hussein Obama is president of the United States,” Obama said. “But we should never take it for granted.”

Ah, yes: “You should never take me for granted.  After all, I may not be here this time in two years.”

Scathing takedown by Jay Cost:

Nobody in the United States is as intent on reminding his fellow citizens just how awesome he is than Barack Obama. That’s what the “Age of Obama” is all about. But that seems to be about it. The sense of awe he has cultivated has not been used for any great purpose — not to forge a bipartisan compromise on the stimulus, not to push through an intelliglble health care plan, not to handle the deficit, not to lead on any of the various foreign policy flareups. This is more a clerkship presidency, with a commander in chief either unwilling or unable to take the lead on the most challenging issues of the day.

He secured himself a couple of mistresses for America, mind you.  Oh, yes…he went there.

There’s no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate. And what I can tell you is that when I did things that were wrong, I wasn’t trapped in situation ethics, I was doing things that were wrong, and yet, I was doing them. I found that I felt compelled to seek God’s forgiveness. Not God’s understanding, but God’s forgiveness. I do believe in a forgiving God. And I think most people, deep down in their hearts hope there’s a forgiving God.

How selfless of him, doing it for us, the common folk.

Yes, Newt, there is a forgiving God.  May He forgive you for trying such a crazy line of thinking out on us as this pap.

Quote of the day, “Babs Boxer cracks up on Senate floor” edition

Cali, you had a chance to kick this crazy wench to the curb last November, and you passed.  She’s all yours, chumps.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that House Republicans want to strip government funding of PBS because they have a “vendetta against Elmo.”

Boxer made the comments during a floor speech where she made the case for her bill that would ensure that the president and lawmakers are not paid if a government shutdown occurs.

Boxer said that the cost of four hours of the Iraq war would be enough to keep PBS funded — and the popular fire-red children’s character on the air.

Boxer believes that the GOP has more than just a vendetta against Elmo. She added that Republicans hold a “vendetta against healthcare” and a “vendetta against clean energy.”

House Republicans last month passed a bill that would strip government funding for both National Public Radio and PBS.

Well, crap!  There goes that coveted and potent kindergarten voting block.

I wonder if any of his handlers let him know that the three branches of the federal government are the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branches.  Phil Hare just called from the unemployment line to say “Dude, even I knew that!”

Quote of the day, “Liberal voodoo logic” edition

Excellent “refudiation” (see what I did there?) of the left’s meme that “the AZ shooter was influenced by Palin, Beck, etc.” by Jim Treacher:

But — follow the leftist logic here — Loughner is not a Tea Partier, or a conservative, or even right leaning at all. This proves that not only can our provocations influence our own crazies (which is 60% of us, to hear them talk) but in fact are so potent they can even drive those who don’t listen to us to kill.

Do you see that next argument taking shape? Taking shape? Having taken shape, I should say, past perfect. Krugman and all the rest of them, having called this as a deranged right-winger (and been proven wrong) simply make their argument more all-encompassing. They’re no longer arguing that right-wing invective can have an unbalanacing effect on right-wingers who hear it.

Their new argument is that right-wing invective can have an unbalancing effect on non-right-wingers — left-wingers, even — who don’t hear it.

That’s how insidious this all is. That’s how dangerous this all is. Right wing chatter can now drive left-wingers who don’t even hear it to kill people.

In the festering gourds on liberals’ shoulders, the above makes total sense to them.
